Quick answer
Q: What does a full exterior envelope inspection cover in the Portland metro?
A: Green O Construction's exterior envelope inspection covers siding, gutters, windows, flashing, and the deck ledger as one connected system. As an Energy Trust of Oregon Preferred Contractor, we identify insulation and air-sealing wins at the same time, then deliver one written scope before any work begins.
The problem
Why most jobs like this go sideways.
Exterior work goes wrong when siding, gutters, windows, and flashing are treated as separate trades. Water finds every gap between them. Green O inspects and scopes the whole envelope as one connected system, which is why we became an Energy Trust of Oregon Preferred Contractor for envelope and insulation work.
- Missing kickout diverters send roof runoff behind the siding at every roof-to-wall junction
- Gutter pitch under 1/4 inch per 10 feet causes overflow that rots fascia and soffit
- Window nail flanges installed over house wrap (not under) let water into the wall cavity
- Deck ledger boards lag-bolted without flashing pull siding off the house in 3-5 years
Most Oregon exterior failures happen at the seams BETWEEN trades - gutter into siding, window flashing into housewrap, deck ledger into the rim joist. The siding guy blames the gutter guy, the gutter guy blames the window guy, and the water keeps coming in. You deserve one contractor accountable for the whole envelope. We do all four trades in-house so nothing falls through the gap - and so when you ask "who did this?" the answer is one name, not four.

- Energy Trust of Oregon incentive coordination for qualifying insulation and air-sealing
- Permit pulled by Green O, inspections attended by our project lead
- 10-year workmanship warranty on siding install and flashing details
- Photo record from behind the siding — you keep proof the details were done right

How we work
How we run it.
Every exterior job follows the same 4-step sequence: envelope inspection with the whole-house walk, written scope naming products and details, self-performed install by our crew, and a final walk with the punch list closed. Typical siding-plus-gutter job takes 5 to 12 working days depending on scope.
- Step 1: Whole-envelope walk — siding, gutters, windows, flashing, deck ledger
- Step 2: Scope in writing with product brands and flashing details called out
- Step 3: Self-performed install with weather-cover on any opened wall
- Step 4: Final walk, punch list to zero, warranty registered by email
Free Envelope Walk
Free walk-around with you. We find where water actually enters - usually not where you'd expect. Written report yours to keep, no obligation.
One Written Scope
Free written scope across all trades. Permit if required (in our name). Protection plan for landscaping and the neighbor's property - we treat your block like ours.
One In-House Crew
Same in-house crew start to finish. Bilingual site lead. Daily cleanup. One PM you call - not a sub roulette.
Warranty In Your Name
10-year workmanship warranty on siding labor. Manufacturer warranties registered in your name. Transferable to the next owner.
Questions, answered
Frequently asked.
The four questions we get most: how long a full re-side takes, whether we handle gutters at the same visit, which siding lasts longest in Oregon, and whether Energy Trust rebates apply. Short answers: 5 to 12 working days, yes we self-perform gutters, fiber cement with rain screen for most Beaverton homes, and yes when insulation is included in the scope.
- Typical full re-side in Beaverton: 5-12 working days depending on square footage
- Gutters, downspouts, and diverters self-performed on the same visit — no sub coordination
- Fiber cement (James Hardie) with rain screen is the most durable in Oregon's wet-dry cycle
- Energy Trust of Oregon rebates apply when insulation or air-sealing is scoped in
Can you do just gutters, or does it have to be the whole envelope?
Either. Gutter-only is fine. We just always inspect what the gutter connects to before pricing - for free - so you don't pay for new gutters bolted to rotted fascia.
What's the difference between Hardie and LP SmartSide?
Hardie is fiber cement (heavier, more durable, harder to install). LP is engineered wood (lighter, easier, slightly shorter service life). Both are 30-year products. We'll tell you which fits your house and your budget - not which one pays us more.
Do you paint interior too?
Yes - but interior paint lives under our Interior category. Same crew of finish painters.
How long does a full re-side take?
Most 2,000-3,000 sq ft homes take 2-3 weeks including window reflash. Larger homes 4-5 weeks. We give you a calendar before we start.
What happens if I pick the wrong contractor?
Wrong contractor = four callouts that don't talk to each other, water still gets in, and the warranty has four names on it (or none). When you sell, the inspector finds it. The premium goes up. The buyer asks for a credit. One accountable contractor costs less in the long run - every time.
Can you do siding, gutters, and windows in one project?
Yes — that is the whole reason we built the exterior division. One scope, one schedule, one accountable PM. No more siding-vs-gutter-vs-window blame triangle.
How long does Hardie siding actually last in Oregon?
30-50 years with proper flashing and a quality paint cycle every 10-15 years. The failures we see are almost always installation defects at penetrations — windows, ledger boards, hose bibs — not the siding itself.
